They came with the Alder Gulch wagon train in the 1860's, settling at what is now the ranch owned and operated by Tom Murphy. Mr. Mulvey was born and raised in Drumshanba County, Lectrim, Ireland, in 1928. He died in 1899. His wife, Catherine, died in 1895 at the age of 70 years. They had no children. The following was taken from an old abstract: An agreement was made between and among neighbors on the 28th day of November in the year of 1866 to share work on a ditch. The ditch was to begin at the John Quinn ranch and be used for irrigation on their ranches. The men involved in the project were: Mulvey, Quaintance, Dunn, Brady, Daily, Kuppens, and Nelson. Each man was to help with the work and share the expense of the project. The project was to be finished in April of 1867. Each man was paid $2.50 per day, and for the use of each yoke of oxen they would be compensated $1.25. The Mulveys sold their ranch to Michael Murphy in 1893 and moved to Boulder. St. Catherine's Church was named after Mrs. Mulvey, as she donated a generous amount to its being built. SUBMITTED BY MRS. MARY ELLEN MURPHY
