ISOM PREUITT - pg 1184 From Leeson's History of Montana 1739-1885 published 1885 Isom Preutt postmaster at Bedford, was born in Illinois, August 29, 1837, and was educated in the common schools of that state. August 1, 1861, he joined the First Missouri Cavalry, and was commissioned First Lieutenant by Governor Fletcher. He was at the siege of Vicksburg, and the battles of Pea Ridge and Cold Spring, Miss. He came to Montana in 1865, bringing a stock of liquors, and first located at Diamond City, Meagher Co., ran a billiard hall and remained one year. He then moved to St. Louis gulch, Indian Creek, and followed mining twelve years, during which time he served two terms as Justice of the Peace and taught two terms in the public school in district No. 16. He went to Bedford, May 2, 1882, and was appointed postmaster May 9, 1882. He carries a stock of goods consisting of drugs and notions. Mr. Preuitt belongs to the I. O. O. F. and the A. O. U. W.
