HENRY RAYMOND - pg 1184 From Leeson's History of Montana 1739-1885 published 1885 SURNAMES FOUND IN THIS BIOGRAPHY: WILCOX; OGDEN; GATES Henry Raymond, P. O. Bedford, son of Silas and Sarah Raymond, of Erie Co., Pa., was born July 25, 1836, educated in the common schools, resided with his parents until the age of nineteen, then moved to Keokuk, Ia., working for the Keokuk and St. Louis Packet company until leaving for Montana in 1864. He settled in the Missouri valley in 1866, at a place called Springville, Jefferson Co.; started prospecting for gold, and was one of the first locations of the Idaho mining district. He mined successfully in that district and during the time went into the stock business and farming, taking up 114 acres of hay land, also a timber claim on the Missouri bottoms. He married Mrs. Wilcox, daughter of James Ogden and Eliza Gates, of Canada, April 3, 1882. He has at the present time about 50 head of beef cattle, and 30 head of horses, the increase alone of two cows and one mare that he commenced with when first settling at Springville.
