Radersburg, arrived at Deer Lodge, Mont., August 15, 1862. the years were spent in mining, prospecting, hauling provisions, etc., in various localities in the territory, until the spring of 1868, when he settled on his present ranch, which he purchased of A. J. Pease. Mr. Townsley was born in La chine, Canada East, January 25, 1840, and spent his boyhood days at home until 13 years of age, when he engaged in railroading in Wisconsin and Missouri, and continued until his removal to Montana. he was married April 5, 1866, at Gallatin City, to Lovira Parker, of Gate City. Mr. and Mrs. Townsley are the parents of seven children: Ella, Emma, Hester Elizabeth, Walter Benjamin, Mattie, Joseph and Mabel. Mrs. Townsley was born in Van Buren Co, Ia., and in the fall of 1865 came to Gate City, Mont., where she remained until her marriage. The family own one of the best improved and finest farms in the Missouri valley.
