Anaconda Standard, April 27, 1907
Helena, April 26.-- James Mettler of Great Falls, a pioneer of Montana and 
father of former Assistant Attorney General Frank W. Mettler, died this morning 
at St. John's hospital. Mr. Mettler was stricken several years ago with 
paralysis, and this is thought to be the direct cause of his death, as he had 
been an invalid for several years, and had been at the hospital for nearly a 
year. Besides his son Frank of this city, Mr. Mettler is survived by a 
daughter, Mrs. H. H. Rose of Butte, and another son, Albert Mettler of Great 
Falls.
