As the result of differences which had arisen between two partners in business, Andrew Ryan lies dead, while William Tumley is in the custody of the local constable, awaiting the arrival of Sheriff Thompson. Word of the murder reached Missoula shortly after midnight. Tumley and Ryan had been partners in the logging business for a long time, and to all outward appearances there appeared to be no friction between them. This morning both of them started drinking and became quarrelsome. After some animated words, Tumley pulled a knife and plunged it into the body of Ryan, who expired a short while afterward. Coroner Lucy was notified to late to leave for the scene, but wired to have the corpse shipped to Missoula on train No. 4 tomorrow morning when an inquest will be held.
