The aged woman met her death as she was hurrying across the street to catch the car to take her to her home. Examination by Dr. J. S. Swoboda at the Murray hospital, where she was taken by Officers Calpin and Van Orden, revealed that the woman's neck was broken and it is believed her skull was fractured, the doctor stated. Her face and head were badly discolored and deeply lacerated. When Dan L. Griffith, motorman, stopped the car, Mrs. Phillips was lying face downward, directly across the tracks. The wheels of the street car did not pass over her body which was resting against the protective device in front of the car. More than 50 persons gathered around the scene, though the street was practicaly deserted at the time of the accident.
