Holland, Butte city treasurer for the past 26 years, died Wednesday afternoon in a local hospital following an extended illness. His death brought sorrow to his many friends and acquaintances. The family home is at 535 N. Franklin. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish. Mr. Holland was born in Butte and had been a life-long resident. He was educated in the local parochial schools and was a graduate of the old Central High School where he was active in athletics. He served in the Army during World War I and was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He was an ardent outdoorsman. Before being first elected to city office Mr. Holland was employed in the county treasurer’s office and prior to that The Anaconda Co. mines office. Many years ago he was interested in prospecting and held titles to several claims. Surviving relatives include his wife, Louise; sons and daughter-in-law, Charles Holland of Butte, E. J. Holland of Seattle, and Dr. and Mrs. J. E. Holland of Portland; sons-in-law and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. McLenegan, Palo Alto, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Doubles of Gross Points Farm, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Don Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reid of Butte; one brother, Jerry Holland of San Francisco; two aunts, Mrs. Minnie Harrington and Mrs. Margaret Harrington, both of Butte. Seventeen grandchildren also survive, in addition to numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. The body is at the Duggan Merrill Mortuary.
