The first June wedding in Butte for this year occurred at noon yesterday [June 1] at St. John’s parish house, when the Rev. Dr. Chapman united in marriage Al [fred] W[allace] Orton of Bozeman and Mrs. M[inverva] N. Hickox of Berkeley, Cal [ifornia]. Both parties are well known here and throughout Montana. Mr. Orton is a member of the pioneer family and is one of the Orton brothers of Butte, Bozeman and other cities of the state. The wedding yesterday is a case of a long and dear friendship gradually ripening into romance. Mr. Orton came over from Bozeman on Sunday and his bride arrived from California yesterday morning. Mrs. Orton is also a member of one of Montana’s most distinguished pioneer families. Her father, George Alderson, and his brother, Maj. W. W. Alderson, were among the early day residents of Livingston. For several years prior to her marriage yesterday Mrs. Orton had made her home at Berkeley. At the ceremony at St. John’s yesterday, Mr. Orton and his bride were attended by Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Reed, Walter S. Orton, a brother, and Miss Charlotte Leipheimer. Afterward the wedding party went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reed, where an elaborate wedding dinner was served. Mr. and Mrs. Orton will make their home at Bozeman, where the groom has been engaged in the piano and music business for many years. Mr. Orton claims the distinction of being the oldest living printer in Montana. He worked for John P. Bruce at Virginia City in 1867 and assisted in the publication of the Montana Democrat, one of the territory’s pioneer daily newspapers, which was printed from a hand press. The bride and groom have the congratulations and best wishes of a host of friends and a large circle of acquaintances both here, in Bozeman, Livingston, and other cities of the state.” END Additional Comments: Anaconda Standard (Butte, Montana).
