THE 91 ST INFANTRY DIVISION US ARMY "THE WILDWEST DIVISION" WWI The 91 st Division was formed in 1917 in response to the need for man power with the advent of the United States entering WWI. They gathered the men, by draft, from the eight Western States: California, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and the Territory of Alaska. The mustering point for the drafted men was Fort Lewis (known then as Camp Lewis) Washington near Seattle. The 91 st was divided into two infantry brigades 181st and 182nd. The 181st consisted of the 361st and 362nd Infantry Regiments plus various specialty groups. This particular article will focus on the 362nd Infantry Regiment. Although the Regiment was made up of predominately Montana men, my Great Uncle Russel Clifton Parr First Lieutenant M.C. (my Grandfather's brother) was from Lincoln co. Washington. He was assigned to that Regiment from the Medical Corp. The major battles that this Division Participated in were: The battle for the Meuse-Argonne forest and in Flanders at the battle of Ypres-Lys. They were still on the front line when the Armistice came.
