Complete obituaries and marriages may be abstrated with a note (FS for Full Story) and page number following. +++ 9 Jan. 1915 Divorce Because her husband departed her in Kansas City in September 1909, Mrs. Margaret L. Campbell filed suit in district court this week, asking for a divorce from her husband Fred E. Campbell. It is stated in the complaint that the couple were married in Loveland, Colo., November 15, 1908, and that about one year later the husband willfully deserted his wife while they were living in Kansas City. The plaintiff resides at present near Reed Point. (Page 1) +++ 23 Jan. 1915 Death J.W. Winsett (sic), Pioneer Answers Final Call Twice within two weeks death visited the home of J.W. Wimsett, 52, a pioneer of Rapids. The first time the angel of death claimed for a victim the 13-months-old daughter and on the second visit the father himself answered the inevitable call. He died in a Billings hospital last Sunday from tuberculosis of the bones. Funeral services were Tuesday in the local Catholic church, Father O'Brien officiating. Interment in the local cemetery. He was born at Harsmonden, Eng., July 12, 1863 and in 1903 married Celia O'Keef. (FS p. 1) +++ 30 Jan. 1915 Marriage Myrtle Lathom and Stanley Milam were married at the Methodist parsonage in Billings, Sunday, by the Reverend George Mecklenburg. (FS p. 1) +++ 6 Feb. 1915 Marriage Perry Oscar Mohler of Busteed and Mrs. Marie Irene Sharrer Smith of Reed Point were united in marriage by Judge W.H. Axtell at his residence in Bozeman, Tuesday evening. (FS p. 1) Death Angle (sic) of Death Summons Mrs. Connell Mrs. Patrick Connell died Tuesday evening at her home on the Stillwater near Columbus. Funeral services were conducted this morning by the Rev. Father O'Brien in the Catholic church with interment in the local cemetery. She was born Katherine A. McNamara in Newark, NJ, on October 1, 1853 and was married there to Patrick Connell in 1871. (FS p. 1) +++ 13 Feb. 1915 Death Prominent Rancher Meets Sudden Death Sunday Peter Wegan, 40, a rancher of Willow creek died Sunday afternoon when he was crushed beneath a load of lumber. Funeral services were held at Roscoe Tuesday, under the auspices of the Absarokee lodge of Odd Fellows with interment in the Rosebud cemetery. (FS p. 1) Death Lake Basin Rancher Dies J.R. Riisnaes, of the Lake Basin country north of Antelope point, died Monday at the local hospital of typhoid fever. Unless papers are found requesting interment elsewhere, the body of the deceased will be taken back to his old home at Hanley Falls, Minn. by his brother H.O. Rsiinaes (sic) for burial. (FS p. 1) Death Well Known Rancher Dies in California J.W. Payne, 50, a well known rancher on Trout creek died at Formosa Calif., where he and his family had gone for his health. It is presumed that interment will be made in California. (FS p. 1) Death Death Calls Infant Death suddenly claimed Milton, the 16-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Stone, at their ranch home near Antelope Point Sunday evening. Funeral services were said by Rev. W.H. Calvert of Park City with interment in the Columbus cemetery Tuesday afternoon. (FS p. 4) +++ 20 Feb. 1915 Marriage Earl Rodgers and wife were in Monday buying supplies for their new home. They were recently married. (Page 8) Death Final Summons Served on Sheriff Robert L. Guthrie, sheriff of Stillwater county, died at his home Thursday afternoon. The death was caused by a complication of heart and Brights disease. Funeral services will be held in the Opera house this afternoon under the auspices of the Doric lodge No. 5, A.F. and A.M. of Big Timber with the Stillwater lodge assisting. Interment will be made in the local cemetery. Robert Leonadus Guthrie was born in Wayne county, Kentucky, Nov. 18, 1867. He was united in marriage to Miss Jessie L. Cowell of Grey Cliff on Jan. 13, 1902. (FS p. 1) +++ 27 Feb. 1915 Marriage At high noon today Miss Florence Madden will become the bride of J.W. Brown, a prominent rancher of Bozeman. The ceremony will take place at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Jamison of the White Beaver district, with the Reverend Marshall officiating. (FS p. 1) +++ 6 Mar. 1915 Death Well Known Pioneer Dies at Gibson Home At his ranch home at Gibson Friday afternoon, occured the death of a prominent and highly respected pioneer, B.O. Forsyth. He died at 69 years of age. He is survived by his wife and five children, three daughters, Mrs. Ole Wogan of Gibson, Mrs. Earl Green of Melville and Mrs. Dorr of California, and two sons, Orlando and Santis of Big Timber. (FS p. 6) +++ 13 Mar. 1915 Birth An 11 pound girl baby arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ira McClure at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. (Page 7) Birth The family circle of Mr. and Mrs. John Logan was augmented Sunday morning by the arrival of a daughter. Both mother and child are doing nicely. (Page 7) Marriage At Stony Brook farm north of Reed Point, the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Oliver, last Saturday, occurred the marriage of their daughter, Neva Iris to Clayton Jerome Yates. The ceremony was performed by Rev. R.N. Wyant. The contracting parties are most worthy young people. (Page 1) Divorce Divorce proceeding were filed in the district court this week by John Cunningham, a rancher of this country, asking for absolute divorce from his wife, Ethel Cunningham, on the grounds of desertion. The couple were married at Waukegan, Ill., in August 1908, and according to the complaint the wife deserted her husband in Zion City, in January 1909. Although he repeatedly wrote her letters offering her a home she refused to accept. The case will be heard at the next session of the district court. (Page 6) Death Mrs. Hermann Uttermohle Dead Mrs. Hermann Uttermohle died at her home in Big Timber Sunday last at 5 p.m. and was buried Tuesday afternoon, the funeral being one of the largest ever held in our neighboring city. She was the former Mattie McLeod. (FS p. 1) Death Death Angel Calls Mrs. L.C. Piper Mrs. L.C. Piper succumbed to acute heart disease at the hospital Thursday morning. Funeral services will be conducted at the Valley View Ranch Sunday at 10 o'clock by Rev. Pope of Laurel. Interment will be made in the Rosebud cemetery under the auspices of the Absarokee Lodge of Rebekah. Cora E. Reynolds was born in Marchias, Maine Dec. 30, 1864. She was married to Louis E. Piper Dec. 16, 1902. (FS p. 1) +++ 20 Mar. 1915 Birth Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Nels Miller, Sunday evening, an 8 1/2 pound baby boy. The boy has been named Mathew William. (Page 5) Death After a nine days illness from la grippe, Eligh Atkinson, 82 years of age, passed away Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D.D. Wildman, west of Absarokee. Besides his daughter, Mrs. Wildman, he is survived by a son living in Minneapolis. A few years ago the deceased came to Absarokee and filed on a homestead, where he lived until the time of his death. Interment was made Tuesday in the Rosebud cemetery. (Page 1) +++ 27 Mar. 1915 Births Daughters were born this week to Mrs. William Arnold of Fishtail and Mrs. Fred Bennett of Absarokee. In both cases the parents and offsprings are doing nicely. (Page 5) Birth Born, to Mr. and Mrs. O. Wodman, of the lower Stillwater valley, a daughter, Tuesday evening. Both mother and daughter are doing nicely. (Page 5) Divorce Because his wife deserted him ten years after they were married, George Scambler filed complaint in the district court Monday asking for a divorce from his wife, Frances Scambler. The couple were married at Leavenworth, Kansas, in May 1903 and according to the complaint the deserted her husband in 1913. The case will be heard at the next session of the district court. (Page 1) Death Mrs. Chambers Dies At Hospital Friday Mrs. Albert Chambers, an esteemed resident of the east Rosebud valley, died at the hospital Friday afternoon. (FS p. 4) +++ 3 Apr. 1915 Birth A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Chitwood, Absarokee, Monday. (Page 1) Birth A baby boy was born to Mrs. Robert Guthrie, Tuesday morning. Both are improving nicely. (Page 5) Birth A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Nick Weber, Monday evening. Both mother and son are doing nicely. (Page 5) Birth Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Rouane, of Shane Ridge, a son, Monday morning. Both mother and son are improving nicely. (Page 5) Marriage Lewis Ober, a prominent rancher of Shane ridge, returned from a visit in Pennsylvania, Monday. He was accompanied by a wife, to whom he was married in Pittsburg. They will make their home on the Ober ranch on Shane creek. (Page 4) Marriage The marriage of David Watt, a member of the firm of Watt Bros. and Miss Lillian I. Sheeks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Sheeks of this city, was solemnized at the home of Mrs. A. Stewart in Big Timber on Wednesday of last week, the Rev. J.C. Blakeman officiating. (FS p. 1) Marriage Young Couple And Irate Parent Figure in Romance A marriage, in which an irate father figured less prominently, took place in Columbus Wednesday evening when Margaret Kenyon of Laurel, daughter of H.C. Kenyon a banker of that place, became the bride of Elwin Sturm, who gave his residence as Laurel. The "weeding" ceremony was performed by Rev. Marshall. (FS p. 1) Death Mrs. A.P. Wheat Answers Final Call Mrs. A.P. Wheat died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.W. Porter, in this city, at 5:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. She is survived by her husband and five children. Funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church Tuesday morning by Rev. W.H.L. Marshall with interment in the Columbus cemetery. Laura Porter was born near Lincoln, Nebr., August 7, 1875. (FS p. 1) Death Mrs. Andrews Succumbs To Cancerous Growth Mrs. Edna Andrews succumbed to the effects of cancer at the ranch home of her sister, Miss Etel Woodward near Reed Point Saturday morning. Funeral services were conducted at Reed Point Monday morning with Rev. W.H.L. Marshall of Columbus officiating. Interment in the Reed Point cemetery. (FS p. 1) Death Aged Pioneer Crosses The Great Divide Montana lost another pioneer Monday morning when George F. Knause, father of A.L. Knause, a well known rancher living on Cow creek, was found dead in bed. Funeral services were held from the Absarokee Congregational church Wednesday morning with the Rev. W.H.L. Marshall officiating. Interment was made in the Rosebud cemetery. Knause was born in Pennsylvania 83 years ago. (FS p. 1) +++ 10 Apr. 1915 Birth Born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rogers of the White Beaver country, a baby girl, Wednesday night. Dr. Smith was the attending physician. Both mother and baby are improving. (Page 4) Marriage A pretty wedding was solemnized at the parsonage of the Congregational church Wednesday morning when Reverend Marshall prounced the word that made Francis A. Ponsonby and Mary E. Wharry man and wife. The couple gave their residence as Chicago, and left here Wednesday afternoon for Billings where they will spend their honeymoon. (Page 1) Marriage The home of Mr. and R.L. Potter was the scene of a pretty wedding Saturday evening, when Earl Shaffer, linotype operator at the News office and Erma Glassford were made one by the Rev. Marshall. (FS p. 1) Death The 20 months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bothman, who reside north of Merrill, died at the hospital Tuesday, of pneumonia. The funeral services were conducted by Col. J.B. Annin at the Bothman home Wednesday and the interment was made on the home ranch. (Page 1) +++ 24 Apr. 1915 Birth Reed Point Happenings - Born - to Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Thompson a 10 lb. girl, April 16. (Page 4) Birth Reed Point Happenings - Born - to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bishop, April 17, a fine baby boy. (Page 4) Birth A bouncing baby boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Barstad this week. (Page 4) Marriage A romance which began in Oldenburg, Germany, in childhood days, reached a successful culmination here Sunday at high noon when the Rev. Ft. M.T. O'Brien read the lines that made Bernard F. Woltermann, a prosperous rancher of Hensley creek, and Johanna Deuling man and wife. (FS p. 1) +++ 1 May 1915 Birth A report from Billings states that a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Schweneker of Nye. Both mother and daughter are doing nicely. (Page 5) Birth Mr. and Mrs. John Cooke of the Stillwater valley are the proud parents of a baby daughter, which arrived at the Cook home Monday. Mother and daughter are doing well. (Page 5) +++ 15 May 1915 Birth The home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Harris of Columbus was gladdened Monday evening by the arrival of a bouncing baby boy. Both mother and son are improving nicely. (Page 7) Death Tired of Life, Ends All With Bullet In Brain Nick Stanley, aged 28, took his life Saturday at the James Law ranch near Dean. He is survived by two half brothers, Morton and R.M. Stanley, who reside on a ranch above Fishtail. Interment was made Sunday afternoon in the Nye cemetery. (FS p. 1) Death Well Known Matron Is Called For Final Reward Mrs. Monterville Sylvester a well known and widely beloved pioneer of the Stillwater valley died Wednesday noon at her home on the Stillwater river midway between Columbus and Absarokee. Funeral services will be held at the home Sunday at 10:00 o'clock with the Rev. Pope of Laurel officiating. Interment will be made in the Columbus cemetery. Adeline Beasley was born in Lynn County, Iowa in 1854. She was united in marriage to Montervile Sylvester at Davis City, Iowa in 1871. (FS p. 1) +++ 29 May 1915 Birth A baby girl arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Smith of Huntley creek. Both are reported as improving nicely. Dr. Gardner was the attending physician. (Page 5) +++ 5 June 1915 Birth Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Chaffin are the proud parents of a 9 pound baby boy that arrived at their home last Saturday evening. Mother and son are doing nicely, while father is pretty proud. (Page 7) Marriage A marriage license was granted to William T. Held and Eva Pearson, both of Billings, Monday. The couple were married by Justice Bohn and departed for their home in Billings that evening. (Page 7) Marriage The marriage of Miss Ethel McBride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McBride of this place and George Curtis, former hoisting engineer at the quarry, was solemnized at the parsonage of Rev. Williams in Billings Monday evening. (FS p. 6) +++ 12 June 1915 Death Women Pioneer Dies Near Park City At Ripe Old Age Word was received here of the death of Miss Jennie Panton, aged 72, at the home of her niece, Mrs. J.D. Vredenburg, at Park City Monday. Miss Panton was born in Canada in 1843. The body was taken to Billings where it was interred Wednesday in a Billings cemetery. (FS p. 1) Death Rancher Instantly Killed Struck By Lightning Bolt Death came suddenly and unexpectedly to L. Hocker Royalty, aged 50, a homesteader living about 15 miles east of Stickley, Thursday afternoon while unhitching a team of horses from a plow with which he had been working. Besides his wife and son, the deceased is survived by one daughter who lives in Miles City. The body was taken to Laurel where it was prepared for burial. (FS p. 1) Death Mrs. William Gillispie Succumbs To Pneumonia Mrs. Gillispie, a resident of the Yellowstone valley, died Monday morning at the home of her mother, Mrs. Maggie Trewin of Park City. Those left to mourn are her husband, her mother, four sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Park City on Tuesday by the Rev. Pope of Laurel. Interment was made in the local cemtery. (FS p. 1) +++ 19 June 1915 Birth Word was received here last week by Joe Anderwald, proprietor of the tailor shop in the Jenkins building, of the arrival of a baby boy at his home in Livingston. (Page 4) Marriage The marriage of Floyd Hosley and Miss Reta Rickman, two popular young people of Rapids, took place at the home of the bride's father, Riley Rickman, last Sunday with the Rev. Marshall of Columbus officiating. (FS p. 1) Death Word was received here Thursday of the death of John Lyons, aged 70, formerly of Limestone, but who was taken to the Soldiers Home last week. Fatigue is given as the cause of death. (Page 4) +++ 26 June 1915 Birth Dr. and Mrs. W.P. Smith are the happy parents of a baby boy that arrived at their home last Friday. According to the father, William will be driving a Ford in a few days. (Page 4) Birth Mr. and Mrs. Walter Quinn are the proud parents of a baby girl, born Tuesday morning. (Page 5) Death Events at Barley - J.G. Eveland and wife lost their little baby last week. It only lived 12 hours. (Supplement page 2) +++ 3 July 1915 Birth A baby girl arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Roberts, north of Reed Point, Tuesday morning. Dr. Payne was the attending physician. (Page 4) Marriage B.E. Berg, a Columbus area rancher, and Ada Kesner, a former teacher in the high school, May 15 in Sheridan, Wyo. (FS p. 4) Marriage At the Congregational parsonage Tuesday George B. Selvidge's son, W.A. Selvidge of Billings, and Miss Fern Rosenvaldt also of Billings. (FS p. 7) Marriage Herbert Roy Groat and Erma Hayes were united in marriage in the office of Justice George Simpson. Both parties are residents of the Lake Basin. Mr. Groat is postmaster of the Lake Basin postoffice and is well known in that vicinity. (Page 7) +++ 10 July 1915 Birth Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hurd are the proud parents of an eleven pound baby boy, born at the hospital Monday morning. The baby has been named Bruce Talman. Mother and baby are reported as daily gaining strength. (Page 4) Birth A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Grant at their home Tuesday noon. Both mother and son are doing nicely. (Page 7) Marriages Dan Cupid Celebrates By Leading Three Stillwater Couples Up To Loves Hymeneal Altar Lathom-Hunter Miss Birdie Hunter of Missoula and Ray Lathom of Columbus, Montana were married Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the parlors of the Baptist parsonage, Rev. C.B. Allen, Jr., D.D., officiating. Patterson-Dolan A pretty wedding occured at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P.R. Heily yesterday morning, when Father O'Brien pronounced the wedding ceremony for Tom Patterson and Miss Minnie Dolan. Knudson-DeLong Another pair of dry land settlers decided to try life's battles together the last of the week, and on Sunday at the Congregational parsonage in Billings Carl Knudson and Miss Millicent DeLong were united in marriage by Walter N. North, a marriage license having first been secured in Musselshell county. (Full stories on p. 1) +++ 17 July 1915 Marriage Reed Point Happenings - Rev. Ft. O'Brien was called here last Monday morning to officiate at the double wedding of Frank Meacham and Addie Bishop and Jack Bishop and Elsie Bishop. It was a very pretty wedding, the decorations being sweet peas and junipers. All parties are very well liked and known here. Both Meacham and Bishop have nice homes on their homesteads and all are ready to go to housekeeping. (Supplement page 2) Death Dies While Visiting Son The death of Ira Pim, aged 70, occured at the local hospital Saturday. The deceased was the father of Elmer Pim, a rancher living near Stickley and had come from Salem, Iowa, a few weeks ago to visit with his son. The remains were shipped to Salem where interment was made. (FS p. 1) Death Park City Pioneer Answers Final Call Montana lost another pioneer when death claimed Mrs. William Loffer of Park City, at her home Tuesday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the Park City Methodist church, Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Calvert officiating. Interment was made in the Park City cemetery. Mrs. Loffer was born at Stubtown, Ohio, and was 54 years old. (FS p. 1) +++ 24 July 1915 Divorce The divorce suit of Grace Gudmunsen against Gilbert Gudmunsen grants both the father and mother custody of the one child. (FS p. 1) +++ 31 July 1915 Birth Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Trewin, of the Keyser creek bench, a daughter. (Page 5) Marriages Two marriage license were secured from Clerk of Courth Iverson this week. Edward H. Fritchel and Marg. B. McGath, both of Billings, were married last Saturday by Justice Bohn. The couple will make their home in Billings. George Scrambler was granted a license to marry Mary Stenglein of Billings, the ceremony being performed by Justice Geo. Simpson, Tuesday. The Scramblers will make their home in Columbus. (Page 1) +++ 7 Aug. 1915 Death Heart trouble caused the death of James Fowler, aged 62, at the hospital last Friday night. He had been living with his brother, John, on the ranch in the Fishtail basin, and had been suffering ill health for some time. The body was taken to Absarokee, where funeral services were held Sunday, the Rev. Madson officiating. Interment was made in the Rosebud cemetery. (Page 5) Marriages Two Couples Embark Upon Blissful Matrimonial Sea Bennet-Braley Tuesday afternoon Albert Braley of Absarokee and Mary Braley of Limestone marched from the Commerical otel to the court house where they were joined in the bands of wedlock by Justice Bohn. Flannery-Cash A pretty wedding took place at the Catholic church, Tuesday evening, when Rev. Father M.T. O'Brien pronounced the words that made Arthur Flannery and Zella M. Cash, both prominent young people of Reed Point, man and wife. (Page 5) Death Aged Rancher Is Called To Rest As the result of an attack of pneumonia Nimrod Emerson, aged 73 of Countryman creek district, passed away Friday morning. The body was accompanied by a son, W.F. Emerson, to Paulding, Ohio, where it will be laid to rest by the side of his wife. He was born in Van Wert county, Ohio, May 18, 1842. (FS p. 1) +++ 30 Oct. 1915 Marriage Last Sunday morning, Herbert Lee Coombs and Miss Veda Ragsdale were married at the bride's home at Cheraw, Colorado. They will make their home in Columbus. Henry North of the Congregational Church. (Page 5) Death Prominent Rancher Falls Victim of Heart Failure White Beaver rancher John Jamison, 73, died Tuesday afternoon. He was born at Dumont, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Jameson ranch Thursday morning with the Rev. W.H.L. Marshall officiating. The body was shipped to Dumont, Iowa for interment. Coon of Billings and Paulina Nelson of Kenyon, Minn., Tuesday. The couple was married by the Rev. W.H.L. Marshall that afternoon and immediately departed for Billings in the groom's car. Mr. Coon, it is said, is the manager of the McCormick hotel in the Sugar City. (Page 7) Marriage The marriage of James Fraser, a well known stone mason, and Clara Countryman was solemnized in Miles City by a Justice of the Peace last Saturday. The couple returned to Columbus Sunday evening, where the groom is employed in the construction of the Mulvihill-Jacobs building. (FS p. 4) Death Mrs. Nancy Cammack Is Called To Final Reward Mrs. Nancy Cammack, 83, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.A. Showen, Tuesday morning. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W.H.L. Marshall at the Showen home Wednesday afternoon. Interment was made in the Columbus cemetery. Mrs. Cammack was born March 16, 1832, in Williams county, Illinois. (FS p. 1) Death George W. Pinkerton Is Called To Eternal Rest George W. Pinkerton, 55, died Monday. He was born in Indiana in 1860. He was a barber by trade and the Journeymen Barbers' union will take charge of the funeral. Sale Ended Here Mrs. J.R. Sale, 81, died at the home of her son, E.L. Sale, last Saturday evening. Funeral services were held from the Congregational church with the Rev. W.H.L. Marshall officiating.
