Nelson are the happy possessors of a daughter, having recently adopted the child of Mrs. McArthur. (Page 1) +++ 14 Oct. 1899 Death Mr. H. D. Stickney, one of the old timers who has prospected the mountains south of the river for many years, and who had a lot of friends scattered all over the country, died at the Springs last week Thursday. The remains were interred in the cemetery at this place on Saturday afternoon. (Page 1) +++ 21 Oct. 1899 Birth Born, to Mrs and Mr. Wm. Gugler of Melville, Oct. 11, a daughter. (Page 1) Born, Oct. 15, to Mrs. and Mr. Dick Budd of Bigtimber, a daughter. (Page 1) Death The infant son of Mrs. Frank Young died Tuesday night. (Page 1) Death David Matheson died last Sunday noon in a horse and wagon accident on Work creek. The remains were buried in the Kent cemetery the following afternoon. The deceased had no relatives in this part of the country. (FS p. 1) +++ 28 Oct. 1899 Birth Born, Oct. 24, to Mrs. and Mr. Henry Witten, a son. (Page 1) Marriage Last Sunday evening at the home of the bride's parents, Maria T. Lanphear and Charles O. Hathaway were united in marriage by Rev. S.B. Tabor. (FS p. 1) Death The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gugler of Melville died last Tuesday morning and was interred at this place the following day. (Page 1) +++ 4 Nov. 1899 Birth Born, to Mrs. and Mr. John Campbell, yesterday, a daughter. (Page 1) +++ 11 Nov. 1899 Death Morton W. Hatch Sunday morning in Butte, Morton Hatch died. The funeral was Tuesday at St. Mark's Episcopal church. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery. He was born July 17, 1865 at Quincy, Ill. In 1888, he married Miss Etta Burns, whom he has left with three small childen. (Page 1) Divorce Mary Booth and Edward Booth. (FS p. 1) +++ 25 Nov. 1899 Birth Born, to Mrs. and Mr. L.P. Tintinger, Nov. 23, a daughter. (Page 1) +++ 2 Dec. 1899 Marriage Mr. John Flanagan, who recently returned from Missouri with a bride, was in Bigtimber today. (Page 1) Death Suicide in Columbus Columbus, Nov. 27 - Chas. Allen committed suicide here Friday evening with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. (FS p. 1) +++ 9 Dec. 1899 Death Emmett Duffy, the 14-year-old son of James Duffy of the American Fork, died very suddenly at the home of his parents last Friday. He had been complaining for several days, but nothing serious was anticipated until he was seized with a terrible pain in his head, became unconscious and died before medical aid could be secured. (Page 1) +++ 16 Dec. 1899 Death Albert Stubblefield Yesterday morning Albert Stubblefield died at his home in Big Timber. He was born in Champaign county Ohio, July 26, 1837. After following freighting and prospecting for some years, he went to Utah where he was married to Isabel Morris in 1871. Funeral services will occur at the Congregational church today, to be conducted by W.J. Hannah. He leaves a wife, eight daughters and two sons. (FS p. 1) +++ 23 Dec. 1899 Marriage Last Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Allen, in the presence of about twenty relatives and friends of the contracting parties, Mr. Charles R. Gates and Mrs. Lois Urner were united in marriage by Rev. J.B. Lister. A number of valuable presents were received, and the wedding supper served by Mrs. Allen was elegant. Mr. and Mrs. Gates will reside in Bigtimber. (Page 1) +++ 30 Dec. 1899 Marriage License to marry has been issued to Mr. P.J. Magelssen and Miss Inga Fallang of Melville. It is understood that the wedding will take place at the home of Mr. adn Mrs. P.O. Fallang next Wednesday. (Page 1) Death Mary Kimberling, who has been a helpless invalid for many years, died at the home of her mother near the second Boulder bridge last week Friday. The funeral occurred Sunday noon, being conducted by Rev. J.B. Lister of this place. (Page 1) +++ 6 Jan. 1900 Birth Born to Mrs. and Mr. J.A. Muir of Big Elk Dec. 31, a son. (Page 1) Marriage Last Wednesday at the home of the bride's parents near Melville, and in the presence of a large number of invited guests, Miss Inga Fallang, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P.O. Fallang, and Mr. P.J. Magelssen were united in marriage by Rev. J.D. Madsen of the Lutheran church. The young people begin their wedded life with the best wishes of everybody who knows them. (Page 1) Death Accidentally shot An accidental shooting, which resulted in the death of Victor Meigs, the ten year old son of E.D. Meigs, occurred near Hunters Hot Springs on Thursday of last week. The funeral occurred at Hunters Hot Springs last Monday. He was the second son of E.D. Meigs, residing on the West Boulder. (FS p. 1) +++ 13 Jan. 1900 Birth On the morning of Jan. 8 a son was born to Mrs. and Mr. Wesley Davis. (Page 1) Marriage Columbus - Thomas Ferland and Miss Emma Flieder were united in marriage at the home of the brides parents, on Flaharty Flats, on Wednesday, Rev. Pope officiating. (Page 1) +++ 20 Jan. 1900 Marriage At the Methodist parsonage, Jan. 16, 1900, Martin Borage of Livingston to Adria Millbanks of Denver, Colorado, Rev. J.B. Lister officiating. (FS p. 1) Death Evans Cloud, an old gentleman who has been spending the past few years at the ranch of George Monroe near Big Elk, died at this place some time Monday night. He came to town several days before, and being ill Mr. Monroe secured a room for him in the Bramble building. Early Tuesday morning Mr. Monroe went to the room and found the old man laying dead upon the bed. The remains were buried in the local cemetery Wednesday. (Page 1) Death Last Monday George F. Hall died of diptheria at the home J.A. Hall. He was the son of E.G. Hall of Desmoine (sic), Iowa, and was born in Milford, Iowa 22 years ago. His remains were forwarded to Iowa. (FS p. 1) Death The funeral of E.C. Whitney, who died at his home about eight miles south of this place on Friday, occurred from the home Sunday forenoon. Services were conducted by W.J. Hannah with burial in the local cemetery. He was a native of Maine. He leaves a widow. (FS p. 1) +++ 27 Jan. 1900 Death Albert Grandy died at the Loasby ranch Saturday night. The funeral, which was conducted by Rev. J.B. Lister, occurred at the same place Monday. The remains were brought to this place for burial. Mr. Grandy, who was some fifty years of age, came to this vicinity from Missouri. (FS p. 1) +++ 3 Feb. 1900 Death Nina, the seven-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Felinger of this place died at the home of her parents last Saturday night, her death being the result of an absess in the head. The funeral occurred at the Congregational church Monday afternoon, the services being conducted by W.J. Hannah. (Page 1) +++ 10 Feb. 1900 Marriage At welve o'clock noon to-morrow, at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bailey a few miles east of Big Timber, Miss Dollie Bailey and Mr. Samuel McGee of this place will be united in marriage. This is most pleasant news to the many friends of Mr. McGee and Miss Bailey. (Page 1, FS 17 Feb. p. 1) +++ 17 Feb. 1900 Death Foul Murder A Columbus Workman Killed for His Money From the Billings Gazette: Columbus, Feb. 11 - Saturday morning, Joseph Bogner was found laying in front of his cabin with a pick driven into his brain. He was about 28 years old. The funeral was held at the Congregational Church, where Rev. Jos. Pope conducted the services. He leaves a sister in Paris and a brother somewhere in eastern Montana. (FS, p. 1) +++ 24 Feb. 1900 Birth A son was born to Mrs. and Mr. J. Frost last Sunday. (Page 1) +++ 3 Mar. 1900 Death The body of Wong Hop, the Chinaman who was drowned near Livingston last July, was recovered last Sunday by Oliver Egbert near the Egbert ranch. (Page 1) Death Michael McGilvary died of small pos at the pest car just east of the Boulder bridge yesterday morning. The other patient in now intirely (sic) recovered and the men held in quarentine have been released. (Page 1) +++ 17 Mar. 1900 Birth A son was born to Mrs. and Mr. Wm. Budd last Saturday. (Page 1) Marriage Mr. J.B. Stevens and Miss Jennie Lemon of Melville were married in this place last Friday. (Page 1) Death Vanorin Long, a brother of Mrs. Jos. Bailey died of hernia at the Bailey ranch four miles east of Bigtimber last Monday morning. Mr. Long came here from Raymore, Mo. about eight months ago. Monday evening a brief funeral service was conducted at the residence by Rev. Jos. Pope of the Congregational Church, and on Tuesday morning the remains, accompanied by Mrs. Long, her little child and Mr. Lewis, a cousin of the deceased, was sent to their former home in Missouri. (FS p. 1) +++ 24 Mar. 1900 Birth A son was born to Mrs. and Mr. L. DeVries yesterday morning. (Page 1) +++ 31 Mar. 1900 Birth A daughter was born to Mrs. L.R. Knapp last Tuesday. (Page 3) Birth A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. N. Iverson last Monday. (Page 3) +++ 7 Apr. 1900 Marriage Cards are out announcing the approaching marriage of John N. Mjelde and Miss Bright Hunter. The ceremony will be performed Saturday at the residence of the bride's mother. (Page 3) Marriage On Wednesday last W.A. Willard of Greycliff procured a license from the Clerk of Court to wed Mrs. Nellie Booth, of the same place, and at 5 p.m. of the same day they were joined in wedlock at the Congregational parsonage by Mr. Pope. (Page 3) Marriage Bird Vestal, who was married to Miss May Baxter of Hunter Hot Springs in Missoula last week Wednesday, was here Saturday being congratulated and joshed by hundreds of friends. (FS p. 3) +++ 21 Apr. 1900 Birth A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob of Rapstad last Tuesday. (Page 3) Marriage W.B. Cooper and Miss Lydia Hiller were married in St. Paul last week. (Page 3) +++ 5 May 1900 Birth Born, to Mrs. and Mr. Conrad Auwater, last Wednesday, a son. (Page 3) Birth A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lawson, who live beyond the Boulder, Monday. (Page 3) Marriage Mr. M.S. Conklin, a brother of Mrs. J.W. Geiger of this place, was married to Miss Josie Dale in Livingston last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Geiger attended the wedding. (Page 3) Death Miss Mary Holmes, who came to this vicinity from Shelbyville, Mo., several months ago, died quite unexpectedly last Tuesday evening. The remains were sent east over the Northern Pacific yesterday morning. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. J.J. Holmes of Shelbyville. (FS p. 3) +++ 12 May 1900 Birth Dr. W.A. Moore reports the arrival of a son at the home of Jno. Ammerman, near Springdale, last Sunday morning. (Page 3) Birth Last week Thursday a daughter was born to Mrs. and Mr. Earnest Ingle of Springdale. (Page 3) Marriage On Monday evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Hall, John Anderson of Big Elk and Miss Hattie Heuffle of Martinsdale, were united in marriage by Rev. J. Pope. The happy couple returned to their home on the Musselshell on Wednesday, with well wishes of their friends and the congratulations of the Leader accompanying them. (Page 3) Marriage Mr. L.W. Martin and Miss Sadie Keefe were married in Livingston on Wednesday morning last, Rev. Father O'Brian of St. Marys Catholic church officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Martin returned to Bigtimber this morning and will reside in the Bliss property near the depot. (FS p. 3) +++ 19 May 1900 Birth Born to Mrs. and Mr. Henry Nicholson, Sunday, May 13, a daughter. (Page 3) Birth Last Friday a daughter arrived at the home of Mrs. and Mr. Ralph Jarrett near Springdale. (Page 3) Birth Mrs. and Mr. Walter Aitken are happy over the arrival of a daughter at their home on Thursday afternoon. (Page 3) Marriage On Thursday Chas. E. Hanson of Graycliff procured a license from Clerk of the Court Skillman, to wed Miss Jessie Gotlob of Howie. We learn that the ceremony will take place at the home of the bride elects parents next Sunday. (Page 3, FS 26 May p. 3) +++ 2 June 1900 Birth Another girl - this time at the home of Cashier Jno. F. Asbury, which arrived Sunday morning. (Page 3) Death John E. Orison died between the first and fourth of last month at his home about three miles from Absarokee. The deceased was about 30 years of age and his mother and several brothers and sisters reside in Minnesota. (FS p. 3) +++ 23 June 1900 Birth Last Saturday a son was born to Mrs. and Mr. Schuyler Cellars. (Page 3) +++ 30 June 1900 Death Peter Campbell, an old resident of this part of the state, died at the Melville hotel last Wednesday, and the remains were interred at the settlement cemetery the following day. Mr. Campbell who has managed some of the largest ranches, was at one time a man of considerable wealth, but several years ago he lost almost all he possessed in the failure of the First National bank of Helena. (Page 3) +++ 21 July 1900 Marriages Last Thursday morning, a party of transients having become matrimonially inclined, two couples of them, De Witt Barton and Nora Draper and W. Bloom and Rose Simons, repaired to the courthouse where they were united in marriage by Justice T.K. Lee. (Page 3) Death A small boy named Frank Ridley was drowned near Columbus one day last week. (Page 3) Death A letter received in Bigtimber this morning conveys the sad intelligence of the drowning of Ora Vestal in the Philippines. In an effort to carry some food across a stream to a scoutng party he was compelled to abandon his sinking boat and swim for the shore. He carried the food on his shoulders some distance and then cast it away, but he finally sunk in sight of his comrades who were helpless to assist him. (Page 3. The letter appears on p. 1 of 28 July) +++ 28 July 1900 Marriage Clarence Williams and Miss Josie Kent of Greycliff were united in marriage in this place last Saturday. (Page 3) +++ 11 Aug. 1900 Birth Born, to Mrs. and Dr. W.A. Moore, Friday morning, a daughter. (Page 3) Death Ira Cole, the 19-year-old son of J.W. Cole of Park City, was drowned at that place one day last week. (FS p. 1) +++ 18 Aug. 1900 Birth A son was born to Mrs. and Mr. C.D. Parker last Monday evening. (Page 3) Marriage Mr. C.C. Manley and Miss Elizabeth Hanley were married at the courthouse last Saturday evening, justice Reynolds performing the ceremony. (Page 3) Marriage Miss Annie Anderson, a daughter of Knute Anderson of Melville, was married in Livingston this week Wednesday to Ole Ferguson of Livingston. (Page 3) Marriage At the home of the brides parents at Merrill Mont. Wednesday Aug. 8th, John Thomas Cook and Miss Annie C. Miller. Ther ceremony was preformed (sic) by Rev. Father Piernot of Livingston Mont. (FS p. 3) +++ 25 Aug. 1900 Death Last Tuesday near Crooked creek in the vicinity of Bridger John Kujath shot and killed Noble Britton his nearest neighbor. The shooting was the result of a dispute over some cattle. (Page 3) +++ 1 Sept. 1900 Marriage Geo. Valentine and Miss Ora Kuhn of Lavina were united in marriage by Judge Lee last Saturday. (Page 3) Marriage Chas. Greeberg and Annie Forgard, both of Howie, were united in marriage last Tuesday evening in this place. Rev. Jos. Pope performed the ceremony. (Page 3) +++ 15 Sept. 1900 Birth A daughter was born to Mrs. John Flanagan in this place last Saturday morning. (Page 3) +++ 6 Oct. 1900 Death Tuesday morning, Mrs. Jacob Hoyem died shortly after childbirth at her home on the Sweetgrass. The funeral occured at the ranch last Thursday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. J. Pope and Rev. J.E. Madson. Mr. and Mrs. Hoyem were married in Norway. She is survived by her husband and twins, a boy and a girl. (FS p. 3) +++ 20 Oct. 1900 Birth The unusual genial smile which adorns the face of Hiram Bake is occasioned by the advent of a son to his home last Wednesday. (Page 3) Death Mrs. John Quinn died last Monday after taking a dose of strychnine. The funeral occured Tuesday afternoon from the K.P. hall, being conducted by the local lodge of Rathbone Sisters. Mrs. Quinn came to this place from her home in Kansas about a year and a half ago. (FS p. 3) Death The death of Mrs. J.W. LeQuatte occured at the family residence last Sunday. She has lived in this community about ten months. Elizabeth Mae Tyler was born in Fairport, Scott Co., Ia. May 8th 1863 and was married to J.W. LeQuatte Dec. 16th 1885 at Illinois City, Ill. The funeral services were conducted at the family residence last Wednesday by Rev. Joel Vigue pastor M.E. church, Chinook, Mont., and Rev. Joseph Pope. She was buried in the local cemetery. In addition to her husband, deceased left surviving her two children, a girl and a boy. (FS p. 3) +++ 27 Oct. 1900 Marriage On Thursday evening, Oct. 18, in the presence of about one hundred invited guests, William M. Jasper and Miss Leona Applegate were united in marriage by Rev. Joseph Pope. The event occured at the home of Charles Cottle of McLeod. (FS p. 3) +++ 3 Nov. 1900 Death Emma, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Bryan of McLeod, died last Tuesday. The child was one of the twins which were born on April 28th, 1898. The cause of death was listed as diabetes. The funeral services were conducted in the Congregational Church on Wednesday by Rev. J. Pope. Survivors include her grandfather, D.W. McLeod. (FS p. 3) Death After an illness extending over four years, Mrs. O.B. Curtis died at the ranch home last Sunday morning. She was a victim of Consumption. The obsequies were held on Tuesday and were conducted at the Congregational Church by Rev. J. Pope. Mrs. Curtis was the daughter of Harton and Maria Thompson and was born at Velsey, Kent Co., Mich. March 3rd 1868. She was married to Mr. O.B. Curtis May 26th 1883 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Mrs. Curtis leaves six children, four boys and two girls, and a mother, Mrs. McKercher. (FS p. 3) +++ 10 Nov. 1900 Double Tragedy Sheriff Young and deputy sheriff Beller of Park county shot at Springdale Yesterday afternoon a double tragedy occured at the Springdale depot, which resulted in the murder of sheriff George Young of Park county and the serious injury of deputy sheriff Frank Beller. (FS p 3) +++ 17 Nov. 1900 Marriage Last Wednesday, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. LaBrie near Harlow, Mr. Benjamin Urner of Melville and Miss Marie Bourke of Helena, were united in marriage by Father Pirnat of Livingston. The bride is the niece of Mrs. LaBrie and is quite well known in this vicinity. Mr. Urner, who is manager of the Melville Merchantile Company, has been a resident of this part of Montana for many years past. (Page 3) Death Owen Dougherty, who has been living on a homestead on the opposite bank of the Boulder, died last Sunday. The remains were sent to Minnesota in the care of Thos. Newspalmer, a nephew of the deceased. (Page 3) Death Roscoe Beley died Thursday of typhoid fever. Young Beley, who was just past 24, came to Montana about 14 months ago. He was the second son of Geo. Beley of Colosse, N.Y. The remains, accompanied by Louis Beley, were sent east yesterday morning. They will be entered (sic) in the town of Mexico, N.Y. (FS p. 2) +++ 24 Nov. 1900 Birth On Friday of last week a daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Sim Guthrie of Greycliff. (Page 3) Marriage Miss Loretta Blake of this place and Mr. Samuel Walker of Billings were united in marriage by Father Piernat at Livingston last Thursday afternoon. (FS p. 3) Death An accident occurred near the Whiting and Thompson saw mill on the head of Bridger creek last Tuesday which resulted in the instant death of Mr. Wm. Powers, an old gentleman who was engaged in cutting timber for the mill. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon. (FS p. 3) +++ 1 Dec. 1900 Death Jessie, the little four-year-old daughter of Andrew Flowers, died at the home of her parents near McLeod last Tuesday night. The little girl was sick but a short time. At first it was supposed that the difficulty was pneumonia, but later reports indicate that it was a case of spinal menitis. The remains were buried at the Flowers Ranch on the Boulder. (Page 3) +++ 15 Dec. 1900 Marriage Mr. Frank Webber and Miss Ella Smith of Big Elk were united in marriage at the parlors of the Blakeslee Hotel last Tuesday night. Mr. Webber is one of the well-known ranchers and business men of the northern part of the county and his bride is a most estimpble young lady who came to Big Elk from her eastern home about a year ago. (Page 1) Death A.B. Hunter, quite commonly known as "Scotty" Hunter, died of pneumonia at the Grand Hotel yesterday afternoon. A native of Scotchman, he came to Montana from New York many years ago. He had two sisters in Brooklyn, N.Y. The remains will be interred in the local cemetery this afternoon. (FS p. 3) +++ 22 Dec. 1900 Birth Born to Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Gilmour, Thursday, a nine pound girl. (Page 1) Marriages On Thursday evening, at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Baker of McLeod, occurred the marriage of Misses Pearl and Mabel Baker to Messrs Primus Bruffy and Elmer McConnell, Miss Pearl becoming the wife of Mr. Bruffy and Miss Mabel the wife of Mr. McConnell. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W.G. Forbis of this place. (FS p. 3)
