Believed to be portrait of George Washington Corson.  Inscribed "Geo. W. Corson" on
reverse. Larson & 
Simmons photographers, Waterloo, Iowa. Date unknown. George W. Corson settled in
Montana in 1886, 
residing first in the Sun River and Great Falls area, and later in Choteau, Teton
County, Montana.

George was born in 1826 in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, the son of Isaac Corson
and Sarah 
Shipman.  In 1851, George married Eliza Ann Kennedy. They had 2 sons, Shuler
Merhling and Isaac 
Shipman. In 1862, Eliza died. The family eventually moved to Waterloo, Indiana,
where in 1864, George 
married Clara Foulk. Soon after they moved to Ohio, where son Byron was born. In the
summer of 1886 
George, Clara and Byron settled in the Sun River/ Great Falls area. Sons S. M. and
I. S. Corson had 
preceded them to the state. George ran the Higgins House Hotel in Great Falls. In
December, 1887 
second wife Clara died at Sun River. Mr. Corson returned to Ohio for one year. Upon
his return to 
Montana, he settled in Choteau, Teton County. George W. Corson died June 29, 1898 in
Choteau.
