Thompson, late manager of the Northern Pacific Coal company arrived in town this morning with a number of mining experts to the Bull mountains. Mr. Thompson is reported as saying the Bull mountain branch will be built sure this summer. From the best information we can glean, a branch will be built either to the coal fields of Rock creek or the Bull mountains. Either route would be of inestimable benefit to the city. As was generally predicted the dance given last evening, under the auspices of the Billings brass band was a complete success. Eight-five couples were present of “fair women and brave men.” The music furnished by Moore’s orchestra was excellent and the whole affair was without a drawback. The band will net more than $100 out of the entertainment toward their uniform fund. Col. Shang Proctor left this morning for Hunters Hot Springs to avail himself of the boiling water, which flows with such profusion there. A few days ago he overreached himself trying to reach up to the Northern Pacific water tank to take a drink, and consequently feels the necessity of spending a few days at the health resort. As this gentleman has not had a bath since he came west of the Missouri 20 years ago, the consequences of his rash act may be better imagined than described. Canyon Creek had a wedding yesterday when John Guy of the Musselshell was married to Maggie Danford, daughter of Joseph Danford. The ceremony took place at the residence of the bride’s father in the presence of a large assembly of friends and relatives. Dr. W.A. Allen was yesterday the recipient of a handsome gold medal, presented him by his friends and patients in Buffalo, Wyo. The medal was sent to Mr. Mund, First National bank, who made an eloquent speech on behalf of the donors in making the presentation.
