Reid rreid21@cox.net August 13, 2008, 10:46 pm Billings Gazette, 27 Feb, 1939 Billings Gazette, 27 Feb 1939. Mrs. Ruth Ann Danford Was Resident of Area Prior to Billings' Founding. Mrs. Ruth ann Danford, 83, resident of this area since 1880, two years before Billings was founded, died at 10 a.m. Sunday at a local hospital. She entered the hospital February 17. Death was caused by an intestinal ailment. She was born Feb. 24, 1856, in Noble county, Ohio, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Baker. She was married to George L. Danford in Ohio in 1877, and three years later the family moved to Montana, acquiring a homestead eight miles west of the present site of Billings. The present home is near the Laurel highway, and adjoins the original homestead. Mrs. Danford is survived by her widower; two sons, Charles C. Danford of Billings, and Sam Danford of Sheridan, Wyo; four daughters, Miss Ida Danford, Mrs. Ed Westover and Mrs. Carl Crosser of Bililngs, and Mrs. Ed Marsh of Sequim, Wash; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
