He married a woman named Mary Susan Lee. Mary was born in Orange county July 14th 1841. She was the daughter of Billy Lee and Lucy Hargrave both of Orange Co. She died Dec. 4th 1922 from Chronic Vascular Disease she also had Chronic Intestinal Nephritis. She was buried 12/5/22 at Wheeler’s Chapel in Person Co. Ashell Burch and Family came to Alamance around 1904-05. In the 1900 Person Co. census they were living in the Flat River township and were farm laborers. Ashell Died June 22, 1931 at the home of his son Rainey Burch in the textile mill village of Glencoe, NC in Alamance Co. At the time of his death he was living in the Faucette Township of Glencoe. He died of heart failure. His obituary in the Alamance Gleaner reads "A. Burch, Aged 88 years, died suddenly last Monday afternoon at the home of a son, Rainey Burch at Glencoe. The remains were carried to Person county Tuesday for interment" and in the Burlington Times News it reads, "Mr. A. Burch Died at Glencoe Monday 3:45 PM. A. Burch, aged 88 years died Monday afternoon at 3:45 at the home of his son Rainey Burch, at Glencoe. He had been in failing health for some time, but his death was sudden. He is survived by the one son, Rainey, and a grandson, John Burch, Glencoe; and by a brother, John L. Burch, of Kinston. Funeral service was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 at Wheeler Baptist Church in Person County, with Rev. G.L. Murray in charge, and burial was made in the cemetery. Pallbearers were Dwight Mansfield, Rainey Massey, R. A. Wilson, Othe Marshall, and Charles and Tom Scott. Flowers were carried by Misses Wannie Blanchard, Nannie Scott, Ollie Ross, Opal Sexton, and Tina Allen. 6/24/1931. Children: Rainey A. Burch circa 1875 and was Ashell and Susan’s only child. ----- Rainey A. Burch was born May 7th 1875 in Person Co, NC and died Sept 19th 1931. He married Cora Lee Moize. Cora was born May 22, 1869 in Alamance or Person Co. She died March 29, 1960. She was living with her daughter-in-law Beulah Burch at the time of her death. Official cause of death was Cerebral Hemorrhage due to Cerebral Arteriosclerosis. She is buried in Pine Hill cemetery in Burlington NC. Rainey was a cloth inspector at Glencoe mills and lived in the mill village from around 1905 until his death in 1931. Rainey died at his home in Glencoe at 6:15 AM and cause of death was said to be heart disease. His funeral was held Sept. 20th at Wheeler’s Baptist church at 3:00 PM by Rev. T. Rupert Coleman. His pallbearers were Jim Allen, John Allen, Z.V. Blanchard, John Cook, Claude Ross, and Tom Wrenn. Flowers were carried by Misses Thelma Vann, Esper & Wannie Blanchard, Wyona Murray, and Ollie Ross. Also by Mesdames Ola Blanchard and Tim Allen. His funeral cost on $125.00. Rainey, his mother and father, are all buried in unmarked graves at the church. If their grave were ever marked, they were destroyed along with many others at the church. There is a pile of headstones in the woods next to the church. ----- Johnny Rainey Burch, was born August 16, 1908 in Alamance co. The attendant at birth was Dr. Bohannan. On May 9, 1927 Johnny married Beulah Beatrice Murray, daughter of George Arlington Murray and Margaret Emma Mitchell. Johnny was 21 and Beulah was 19. Johnny Rainey Burch and Beulah lived and worked in Glencoe for around ten years where he also was a pitcher for the mill’s baseball team. Johnny also worked at the Body Shop in Mebane, Bur mills in the Trucking dept., and part time for Rich and Thompson Funeral services. They also lived on Durham St. and 232 Kent St. in Burlington. Johnny Burch died Dec 6, 1952. His obituary reads: "NINE PEOPLE ARE INJURED IN SINGLE ACCIDENT NEAR GRAHAM SATURDAY NIGHT; CHARGES ARE MADE Attendant to ambulance dies suddenly at scene. Graham- Three different charges were filed today against a Graham man as a result of a highway accident Saturday night that sent nine persons to the hospital and was capped by the sudden death on the scene of a Burlington ambulance attendant. Hoyte Curl, 31, was charged with careless and reckless driving, driving while drunk, and illegal possession of white whiskey. Highway patrolman O. M. Hicks said Curl may also be charged with improper vehicle registration. He was jailed here under $1000 bond. Curl was driver of a 1941 Buick convertible that collided with a 1947 Pontiac driven by H.H. Daniels, 32, of route 2 Elon College, Patrolman Hicks said. The crash about 10:30 pm at a junction of highway 54 and a county road about three miles east of Graham. Johnny Rainey Burch, 44, of 232 Kent St, Burlington, a part-time employee of Rich and Thompson funeral service in Burlington, died of a heart attack while he was helping load one of the injured persons on to a stretcher. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Burch was a regular employee of Burlington Mills, where he was a welder and a mechanic. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon." the article goes on "A native of Alamance county, Mr. Burch was the son of the late Rainey Burch and Mrs. Cora Moize Burch who survives. He is also survived by his wife, Mrs. Beulah Murray Burch of Burlington: three daughters, Mrs. W.R. Rogers of Roseboro, Mrs. W.S. Quakenbush and Mrs. Shirley Burch, both of Burlington, one son, Darrell Eugene Burch of Burlington, and four grandchildren. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 3:30 o’clock at the Rich & Thompson funeral chapel in Burlington. Rev. Tom Freeman pastor of Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church, will conduct the service, assisted by Rev. John R. Poe, pastor of the West Burlington Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill cemetery. The body was removed from the Rich & Thompson funeral mortuary to the residence at 232 Kent St. this mourning at 10:00 o’clock and will be returned to the funeral chapel tomorrow afternoon." His pallbearers were E.E. Brogden, Willie Williams, Gurney McPherson, Lawrence Allred, J.E. Boone Jr., and H.A. Blythe. Music was by a quatette, Shrewd Durham Bobby Fogleman, Boyd Tickle, and Grady Cook. They sang, "In the hour of Trail", "Near to the heart of God", "Take my hand, Precious Lord". Mrs C. M. Fogleman & Henry Casley, organists. His funeral cost $840.86. Beulah remarried to Elmer Kelley in 1953 and died Sept 18th 1990.
