Kirkpatrick The Standard of Raleigh, Jan. 13, 1864 DIED, -- In Fort Delaware, in October, 1863, JAMES D. KIRKPATRICK, son of ALEX and FRANCES KIRKPATRICK of Alamance County, N.C. The subject of this notice entered the service in July, 1862 -- was a member of Company I, 17th North Carolina Troops. He participated in the Fredericksburg Battle, in the Battle of Winchester and the Battle of Gettysburg, Pa. At the latter place he was captured by the enemy, and carried a prisoner of war to Fort Delaware. After a time, disease seized upon his system and he sickened and died, far away from home, where there was no mother or sister to console him. He was born September 2,1829. May his aged father and mother, sisters and brothers, relative and friends humbly bow in submission to the dispensation of God's providence.
