The Landmark, [Statesville, Iredell County NC]; Issue Date Monday, July 18, 1921 July 18, 1921
During a severe electric storm Friday afternoon in Sugar Loaf township lightning
struck the home of Mr. Melvin Childers breaking a hole in the roof and some
window casings were torn loose, and knocking Miss Ruby Childers who was in an
upstairs room, and rendering Blanche Childers who was sitting in a downstairs
room unconscious.  It went through the floor and killed a hen and cat that were
under the house where the little boy was sitting.  Blanche was unconscious for
some time.  Dr. Thurston was call and Saturday he (sic) had fully recovered from
the shock.
