The Landmark, [Statesville, Iredell County NC, Semi-Weekly newspaper; issue date
Friday 27 April 1900

Mr. W. C. Crouch, who lived near Alspaugh’s roller flour mill, five miles south
of town, was found dead yesterday.  It was at first thought that he was killed
by his mule running away, as he had been driving a mule to a one-horse wagon,
but I have since learned that there was no bruises, broken bones, or signs of a
struggle, and it is now thought probable that Mr. Crouch dropped dead.  He was
about 65 years old and a good citizen.
