He was born June 7, 1923, in Alexander County, son of the late Lena Dagenhart Montgomery. Mr. Dagenhart served in the US Army during WWII in Normandy, France, Rhineland Central Europe, battles and campaigns. He received the American Theater Medal, EAMET Campaign Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He worked at Dagenhart Woodcarving and as a Master Carver for Cranford Woodcarving, Inc. in Hickory, retiring in 2004. He was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed planting his garden and riding his four-wheeler around the community. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucy Fulbright Dagenhart of the home; two sons, Buford Stephen Dagenhart and wife Diane of Stony Point, and Howard Wayne Dagenhart and wife Gail of Stony Point; two daughters, Penny Call and husband Leon of Conover, and Linda Matthews and husband Harvey of Claremont; five grandchildren, Stephanie Hubbard, Kimberly Dagenhart, Lisa Honeycutt, Christian Goodman, and Sarah Rose Sthr Dagenhart; four great-grandchildren, Cpl. Jared Hobbs, Blake Goodman, Brett Dagenhart, and Hayley Campo; and two half-sisters, Sherry Ann Thomas and Madeline Baity. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 pm, Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Marvin United Methodist Church. Rev. Matthew Emory and Jeff Carson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery at the church. Military rites will be provided by Hiddenite Post #10,000 and Taylorsville Post #5466. The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 pm prior to the service. The Dagenhart family would like to express a special thank you and love to our caregivers, Kay Christie and Patti Welborn; special friends, Carl Moose, Sam Poteat, David Gaines and Esker Elder. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Marvin United Methodist Church Building Fund, 671 Marvin Church Court, Stony Point, NC 28678.
