The Lenoir Topic Tuesday August 2, 1887 (Lenoir, NC) Death Of Mr. Adam Flowers July 22, 1887 To the Editor of The Lenoir Topic: Died at his home in Alexander county July 20, Adam Flowers, son of Adam Flowers Sr. deceased, and brother of Esq. Elkanah and Dr. Cyrus Flowers of this county. Uncle Flowers was born near Whittenburg, in Alexander county, in 1829, hence he was 58 years old. He joined the Methodist church at Pisga when quite young, living an active church life, class leading, S. S. Superintendent, steward, &c. Pisga will mourn the loss of their leader. He married Sarah White, daughter of Wm. White, sister of Capt. W. A. and Raswel White. He leaves a wife and nine children, two sons and seven daughters. No father ever reared and gave better and truer children to the community and church than he did. As a neighbor, father and husband none excelled him. All may be said of him that could be said of any good man. A word of consolation to his bereaved ones (considering his humility with his walk through life) is that his loved ones may confidently expect that when the Master comes to make up his jewels, he will be one among the throng, and we can only say, Sleep, dear uncle, until Christ comes, for your life assures us that your waking will be a happy one. He was buried in Pisga grave yard July 23rd to await the reserrection of the just. It makes us feel sad to think that one, by one of those old people who bind us to the lovely past are dropping off and that we are gradually following them step by step and will soon, too, pass through the river of death as our uncle has.
