Payne, aged 71 years died suddenly Friday evening at his home near Third Creek, in Statesville township, death resulting from a heart attack. Funeral services were conducted Staurday at 3:30 o'clock from Rose Chape, by Rev. J.E. McSwain. Mr. Payne was a successful farmer and was well known throughout this section. Surviving him, besides his widow Mrs Nancy Clemintine Payne, are three sons and three daughters: Meesrs T.P. and C.W. Payne, of Panama, fla. and Mr. W.P. Payne, Mrs G.B. Vison,Mrs. T.T. Payne, and Mrs J.W. Grider all of this county. The deceased iis survived also by one sister, Mrs Catherine Payne, of Alexander Co.and 5 brothers; Messrs O.F.;W.C.;J.R.;C.C.; and H.P. Payne, the last of Florida. Additional Comments: Newton Decater Payne was born in 1855, the son of Henry Willis Payne and wife Lucinda Combs Payne. Henry Willis is buried at Liberty Church, Alexander Co., and Lucinda is buried in the abandoned "Old Mt.Pleasant Church Cemetery", both located in Alexander County, N.C.
