The services are at New Salem Presbyterian Church near Stony Point with Rev. Paul Horne, Rev. Thomas Reece, and Rev. C. C. Holland officiating. Mr. Payne died at Davis Hospitall at 5 a.m. Sunday. He had been in critical condition since being admitted to the hospital shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday with severe burns.Mr. Payne was born in Alexander Co on November 21,1898, son of Charlie Clayton and Dezze Matilda Sherrill Payne. He spent his entire life in Alexander and Iredell counties and was a farmer. He was married to Bertha Sigmon, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joan Herman of Statesville, Miss Ruth Payne of the home; four sons; Willis H, Charlie Parks, and William Mack Payne of Statesville; one son Glenn Payne of the home; four sisters; Mrs. Marcie Miller,Mrs. Daisey Murphy. Mrs Neva Price, and Mrs Katie Holder of Winston-Salem. One brother;C.Ray Payne of Stony Point and four grandchildren.
