Statesville Record and Landmark
Willis Henry "Bill" Payne. 81. formerly of 118 S. Oak St. died Tuesday May 8, 
2001. He was born Oct 18, 1919 in Alexander Co., the son of the late Clarence 
Clayton "Jack" Payne and Lou Arnette Grant Payne.He was a member of First Arp 
Church. He was self employed as a plumbing contractor and owner of Lap Pipe 
Inc. He was a veteran of WWII. He was preceded in death by Francis Louise Day 
Payne who died in Dec 29, 1999. Surviving are his stepmother, Bertha Sigmon 
Payne of Statesville; two daughters Donna Jo Payne of the home, Becky Louise 
Huffman and husband Craig Huffman of Statesville,two granddaughters Jennifer 
Benfield of Asheville and Lisa Benfield of Statesville. Also surviving are  
one brother Charlie Parks Payne, two half-sisters Joan P. Meadows of Florida 
and Ruth Hefner of Statesville; one half-brother William Mack Payne of 
Statesville. Graveside services will be held at New Sterling ARP Church, 
officiated by Rev. J.C.Parks. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 
2031.
