Mr. James R Payne, a native of Alexander Co, died Thursday afternoon at 5:00pm 
at the home of his son, Rev. T.E. Payne at Hudson, NC where he had been for 
some time.Funeral services will be held at Libertyh Methodist Church, 
Alexander County, Saturday morning at 10:00 am and interment at the church 
cemetery. 
Mr. Payne, a son of Henry Willis Payne and Lucinda Combs Payne of Alexander 
Co.,was 84 years of age. He was born in 1848. he married Miss Mary Martin of 
Alexander county. Mrs. Payne died approximately nine years ago. Surviving him 
are nine children; four sons and five daughters. They are Mrs. Waistel Teague 
of Taylorsville; Mrs Hubbard Fincannon,and Mrs Cicero Mayberry of Alexander 
Co.,Mrs, Gordon Wilson, Mr. Keener Payne, and Mrs John Miller of Marion, 
NC.Messrs. Reuben Payne and William Payne of China Grove, NC; Rev T.E. Payne 
of hudson, NC. One sister, Mrs. Mary C. Price of Taylorsville, three 
brothers;Carter Payne of Alexander Co,Foy Payne of Statesville, NC and Henry 
Payne of Mulberry, Fla who survive.
