Correspondence of the Landmark

Mr. Thomas Payne died of pneumonia at his home near this place (Hiddenite), 
Monday, January 30, in the 77th year of his age. His remains were interred in 
Liberty Church Cemetery yesterday with Masonic  honors, and the pastor, Rev 
W.L.Dawson, preached the funeral. Mr. Paynehad been a member of Liberty church 
more than sixty years and a steward for a number of years. His wife and two 
daughters, Mrs. John C. Thomas and Mrs W.L. Irvin, of this place, and a large 
number of grandchildren survive him. He was regarded by all who knew him as 
one of the best men and Christiansin the community.
