Stamper, Jesse P. Caudill, A. Waggoner, Allen Toliver, A. Warden, A.D. Parsons, Enoch Reeves, and Samuel Phipps are held and firmly bound unto the State of North Carolina in the sum of ten thousand dollars current money of the state. Witness our hands and seals this 28th October 1862. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounder Jesse Bledsoe hath been duly elected and declared Sheriff of Alleghany County for the next two years; now therefore if he the said Jesse Bledsoe as Sheriff as aforesaid shall well and truly make collection and pay over and settle the public taxes as required by law during his continuance in office and in all things faithfully discharge the duties of his said office, then the obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
