The husband of Mrs. Rachel Emory died four months ago leaving her with two children. Emory had saved up some money and it was believed that $500 was locked in his trunk. The farm house is situated on a lonely mountain side and there are no other houses within two miles. About two o'clock she was awakened by a noise in her room which proved to be that of two masked men. She sprung from the bed, jerked a large revolver from a bureau drawer and was in the act of firing at the men when they sprang upon her, pointed the revolver at her own head and without one word fired a bullet through her brains. After the villans had completely satisfied themselves with butchering the poor woman, they consulted about the life of the little girl, and decided to do her no harm; so the girl tells the story. The robbers carried off three hundred dollars.
