These papers were found inside the John Crouse estate papers for John Crouse, who died in 1874, and wife Jane Crouse estate papers in error. Death occurred about a year apart for 2 of the numerous John Crouses in the county, and this allotment to Bashy Crouse was misfiled in the NC Archives with the wrong husband. Bashy Crouse 1876 March 13, 1876 We the undersigned jurors after being duly summoned and sworn to lay off and allot to Bashy Crouse, widow of John Crouse, deceased, one years support commencing the 6th day of March 1876, ending March 6th, 1877. 15 bushels of grain at 65.......9.75 125 lbs bacon at 12.5............62.5 household and kitchen furniture....100.00 2 milk cows.............40.00 7 head hogs............12.00 9 head of sheep.......18.00 total $193.37 The above includes all the personal effects of the deceased given under our hands day and date above written.
