ALLEGHANY COUNTY, NC - Adam Crouse Estate deed to Joseph Alexander Heirs ----¤¤¤¤---- Jacob A. Crouse (as administrator of Adam Crouse) deed to Joseph Alexander heirs: By Carolyn Spence. This involves both a deed and a probate file. In 1843, Jacob A. Crouse was appointed administrator of the Adam Crouse estate. Adam Crouse had obtained a land grant for 200 acres on the waters of Little River near Peak Mountain in 1802. The land was surveyed by Eli Cleveland and the survey chains were carried by Gabriel Fender and Jacob Brinegar. On March 19, 1830 Adam Crouse sold this 200 acres of this land grant to Joseph W. Alexander for 200.00 and acknowledged the money to have been in hand. The land is located on a fork of Little River on what was then known as the southside of Peak mountain. The witnesses were Enoch Reeves and Solomon Scott. On May 22, 1845 the estate administrator of Adam Crouse, Jacob A. Crouse caused a 2nd deed to be made for the same 200 acres, again for 200 dollars and deeded it to the infant heirs of Joseph W. Alexander to wit: Alford Alexander, Granville Alexander, Calvin Alexander, Martin Alexander, and Nancy Alexander. Sally Alexander is also named as "not an infant". Neighbors mentioned are Daniel Hoppers and John Billings, and the witnesses were Eli C. Reeves and Robert Thompson. The most plausible explanation for this 2nd deed is that Joseph Alexander may not have registered the original deed and was himself deceased by 1845, therefore his children were registering the deed on behalf of Alexander's estate and since Jacob A. Crouse was also at the same time administering the estate of Adam Crouse, Jacob was asked to provide a deed to be registered to the Alexander heirs. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
