Senator from Parish of St. David and from combined Districts of Marlborough, Chesterfield, and Darlington. Born October 10, 1746, in Queen Anne County, MD, the son of PHILEMON THOMAS and ?ELIZABETH THOMAS.” “Removed to South Carolina between 1765 and 1770. Married Sarah Little, before 1777. During Revolutionary War, was private in Captain Healy’s company of Rangers, 1775. Large planter, of Marlborough District; also owned lands in North Carolina [Richmond County]and Maryland; richest man in the district at the time of his death.” “South Carolina Senate, St. David’s 1781-1782 (not present), 1786-88; Marlborough, Chesterfield, and Darlington, 1796-1800. County Court Judge. Commissioner of Caveats, Cheraws District, 1784. Presidential Elector, 1796. Justice of quorum. Commissioner for dividing circuit court districts into counties, 1783. Tax Collector, St. David’s, 1785. Commissioner to approve securities. Commissioner of public roads.
