The land on which our present church stands was a gift from Joel Gulledge. The original tract contained six acres, the deed being given in 1811. The first building was struck by lightning and burned in the winter time, and for a period of time a Brush Arbor and the School House was used for worship. For a period of time no records were kept, but the church was rebuilt, and the name changed to Deep Creek Church about the year of 1790. In this old church, a section was provided at the back for the slaves who were members of our church. The records state no meeting of March, 1865, on the account of Yankee Army being in the neighborhood of the church. In 1922, the church was remodeled. Railing divided the church, it has been said that this railing was used to separate the men from the women. Prior to this time, baptizing had taken place in the creek.
