WITNESSETH that whereas the said PATRICK BOGGAN in his official capacity as such did disdain advertise & sell in fair and open Market a certain Tract or parcel of land in order to Raise and Levy the tax due thereon for the year 1796 to him as Sheriff aforesaid being due (there being no personal property in his Bailiwick to be found) whereof he could raise or Levy the same by Virtue and in consequence of the several powers in him vested as Sheriff aforesaid by the several acts of the General Assembly to amend the Revenue Laws and to direct the made by which those hereafter shall complain of its Judgments may obtain redress which powers will more fully appear reference being had to the several acts of General Assembly the owner thereof having failed to give in the said Land Either by himself, his agent Factor or attorney friend or any other person and in consiquence (sic) thereof the said Land became Liable and Subject to payment of the Tax due thereon under certain restrictions which were all duly complied with previous to Exposing the same to sale the said Tract of Land were supposed to be the property SUTTLE FRANKS and SHEPPARD or Some other person or persons unknown. Beginning a white oak two white oaks pointers Standing on the North Bank of Big Brown Creek & runs North Twenty five West Twenty five Chains to a post oak then North Sixty three East thirty four Chains & fifty links to a stake one pine pointer then North forty three East Twenty Eight Chains to a Stake one pine and red oak pointers then South Twenty five East thirty four Chains to a pine then South sixty five West seventy four Chains to a Stake then North Twelve Chains to a stake then North forty west Twenty seven Chain and fifty links to a dead Red oak then North sixty six East Eighteen Chains to the first station and whereas at the sale of the said Land it was set up in one Tenth part and cry'd in parts and no person would make a bid for a Less quantity than the whole Tract Containing four hundred & Sixty acres and in consequence whereof I the said Sheriff did expose to Sale the said Tract of land when WILLIAM WOOD Bid the Sum of _________ and became the last and highest Bidder for said land and became the purchaser NOW THIS INDENTURE WITNESSETH that in persuance (sic) of the several acts of the General Assembly in that case made and provided the said PATRICK BOGGAN, High Sheriff for and in consideration of the above sum in current money of North Carolina to him in hand paid by the said WILLIAM WOOD at and before the signing sealing and Delivering of these presents the Receipts & payment is hereby acknowledged & himself therewith paid the sum bid hath granted bargained sold and confirmed and by these presents doth Bargain sell alien enfeoff convey & confirm unto him the said WILLIAM WOOD his heirs and assigns forever all and singular the said Tract of Land herein mentioned Specified and Discribed (sic) and Every part and parcel therof TO HAVE & TO HOLD all and singular the said Land with all its rights and privileges appurtenances unto himthe said WILLIAM WOOD his heirs Execrs. admrs. & assigns forever all the estate right title Interest and property in and to the said which the said LITTLES (sic) FRANKS and SHEPPARD or any other persons or persons unknown their heirs or assigns can or may have claim challenge or Demand from by or under the said LITTLES FRANK or SHEPPARD or any other person unknown NOTWITHSTANDING any acts or acts thing or things by them done had permited (sic) or suffered from the time of the said Sale as all and every proceeding and proceedings conducted as expressed by Act of Assembly THEREFORE I the said PATRICK BOGGAN as far fourth (sic) as the power vested in me as Sheriff by Law do warrant and Defend the said land and premises to WILLIAM WOOD his heirs and assigns forever as my office as Sheriff will enable me to do and Convey lands agreeable to the Several Acts of the General Assembly for making Lands Subject to be sold for Taxes due thereon In Testimony whereof I the said PATRICK BOGGAN Sheriff do hereunto Let my hand & Seal the Date above written Signed Sealed & Delivered In presence of us HENRY JACKSON PAT.
