This file was contributed for use in the North Carolina USGenWeb Archives by: Bobbie Ledbetter blsl@ij.net ============================================================================ Contributor's Note: I do not know why this Indenture shows that both of the parties are from Craven Co., South Carolina. I do know where the land is located, and I believe at that time, that part of South Carolina was considered in North Carolina. The indenture mentions the PeeDee River and Thompsons Creek. The area where Thompsons Creek runs into, or crosses the PeeDee River, is down U.S. Highway 1, where one has to go either east to Darlington or west into Cheraw. Right before this juncture is Thompson Creek. This area is just south of the NC/SC border. It appears that the document was recorded in Anson County, N.C., and that is why I have copied it on the Anson Co. USGenWeb Site. I have copied this document to the best of my ability, and using all spellings, punctuation or lack of, and misspellings that appear in it. The name "Dobbs" and "Dabbs" are interchanged in a number of old documents. However, from all of the data that I have collected, it appears that this is a member of my Dabbs family. In England the name was spelled either way, even using a number of spellings in the same document. It seems that it was spelled either way in documents and records in the Colonial days, which makes it very hard to follow the correct family. If I have made any mistakes in copying the document, I would welcome the corrections. Thanks for any help whatsoever.
