To all To Whom these presents Shall Come Greeting Know ye that we for 
and in Consideration of the Sum of fifty Shillings for Every hundred 
acres hereby granted paid into our treasury by George Dodd have given 
and granted and by these presents Do give and grant unto the Said 
George Dodd A Tract of Land Containing One Hundred acres Lying and 
being in our County of Anson on South West Side of Pee Dee river on the 
branches of the flat fork of Brown Creek Beginning at John Williamsons 
first Corner red oak and runing South thirty East Eight Chains Richd. 
Ratliffs Corner post oak then with the said Ratliffs Line West five 
chains to the Said Ratliffs Corner Stake twenty five East thirty four 
Chains to a Stake in aron bakers Line then with Said bakers Line South 
fi--- Eight West thirty two Chains to the Said bakers Corner black jack 
then with the Sd. bakers Line North thirty two West Thirty four Chains 
to a Stake in John Williamsons Line then with the Sd. Williamsons South 
twenty five West forty Chains to the Begining
Granted at Hillsboro the fourteenth Day of October in the Eighth year

NOTE: I believe this Anson Co., N.C., Grant may be to GEORGE DABBS, 
rather than GEORGE DODDS. The reason for this is the land abuts land of 
one of the RATLIFFs, and the RATLIFF FAMILY was a collateral family of 
the DABBS FAMILY in Anson Co. NATHANIEL DABBS' parents were JOSEPH & 
NANCY (HOGGETT/HOGGATT/ETC.) DABBS. From records that I have found, the 
HOGGATTS & RATLIFFS were Quakers. I have not been able to find any 
records that show the DABBS as having been QUAKERS. 

However, in the mid 1600s there had been a *JOHN DABBS in Maryland 
(Kent Co.), where a large group of Quakers had lived. He first married 
a NAN EVANS (Some say it was EATES, and some say EVANS.) in Anne 
Arundell Co., Md. After NAN died, JOHN DABBS moved to Kent Co., Md., 
and married **ANICAKE (HANSON) (1st husb. ELENA/ELENOR) (2nd. husb. 
MacKENNEY). There are a number of families in the old Anson Co. area 
that had come into Maryland; migrated south into Virginia; then into 
N.C. It appears the RATLIFF FAMILY was one of those families that 
followed this route. I have copied this document as it appears, leaving 
in all of the misspelled words, etc. I have not double-spaced the body 
of the document as it appears, in order to save space. 

I can be off the track, and completely wrong, but I believe the above 
to be the case. If anyone has any correction/s for the above, or

*JOHN DABBS/DABB came into Virginia in the early part of the 1600s; 
went to court and demanded the "land promised me in Maryland", which he 
received. JOHN & ANICAKE had one RECORDED son, JOHN - b. c1662-5; 
living in 1703. However, there was a BENJAMIN DABBS that was in Kent 
Co., Delaware, in the early 1700s. He died testate in the early 1700s. 
JOHN & ANICAKE had several recorded daughters, whom I have on record, 
and their husbands. 

**There is a wonderful article about ANICAKE in THE AMERICAN 
GENEALOGIST; WHOLE NO. 215; JULY, 1978; VOLUME 54; NO. 3. The title of 
the article is "Anicake (Hanson) (Elena) (MacKENNEY) Dabb of Kent 
County, Maryland, 1652 - 1674". This article shows the resilience of 
our Colonial ancestors. There were a lot of people from Sweden that 
migrated to Maryland in the Colonial days, and Portugese, as you can 
see, by the name "Elena". Elena was spelled many ways in the early 
records, and evolved other spellings.
