HAMMOND TO GEORGE ALLEN THIS INDENTURE made on the 18th day of November A.D. 1840 between LEMUEL B. HAMMOND of the County of Anson & State of North Carolina on the one part & GEORGE ALLEN of the County of Anson & State of North Carolina on the other part. WITNESSETH that the sd. L.B. HAMMOND for & in consideration of the sum of One Thousand Dollars to him in hand paid by the sd. GEO. ALLEN at the time of ensealing these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargain sold aliened and confirm unto the sd. GEORGE ALLEN his heirs and assigns a certain piece or parcel of land in the County & State aforesd willed to me by my Father GEORGE HAMMOND SR. situate on the waters of Little Brown Creek adjoining the lands of GEORGE S. HAMMOND and JOEL HAMMOND bounded as follows (Viz.) beginning at a stake by a hickory the 3rd corner of an old grant and runs N. 6 E. 61 chains to a stake by 3 black jacks pointers then S. 84 E. 18 Chains & 80 links to a black gum then S. 30 E. 11 chains & 40 links to a maple in MERRITTS Branch then up the various courses of sd branch 16 chs. & 50 links to JOEL HAMMOND'S corner one red oak & spanish oak pointers then with his line S. 14 E. 18 chains to a stake in the edge of the old road 1 post oak & small red oak pointers then S. 57 1/2 E. 5 chs. & 50 links to a post oak then S. 74 E. 16 Chains; & 10 links to a black jack then S. 12 W. 18 Chs. & 60 links to a post oak JOEL HAMMOND'S corner in the back line then with the old line N. 84 W. 38 chains to the beginning containing one Hundred & Fifty Eight acres to have and to hold the sd. land and premises and all and singular the tenements hereditaments and woods ways waters mine mineral improvements rents issues profits remainder and remainders privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the sd. GEORGE ALLEN his heirs and assigns to his and their proper use and behoof in fee simple forever and the sd. LEMUEL HAMMOND and his heirs and all and singular warrant and forever defend from the lawful claim or claims of any and all persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof I the sd.
