State of North Carolina, recorded in the Secretary’s office Jonathan French ?Bodie? “To all whom these presents shall come, Greeting. Know ye that for and in consideration of the sum of 50 for every hundred acres, hereby granted, paid into the Treasury by PHILEMON THOMAS, have given and granted, and by these presents do give and grant unto the said PHILEMON THOMAS a tract of land containing 18 acres lying and being in our County of Anson, northeast of Pedee on the east side of Hitchcock Creek:” “Beginning at a forked pine, his old corner and runs with his line south 80 west 40 chains to Hitchcock Creek, then up the various courses of the creek to a white oak on a steep hillside, about 40 yards from the bank on an old line, then south 48 east 11 chains to the beginning as by the plot hereunto annexed part upper; together with all woods, waters, and minerals, hereditaments and appurtenances to the said land belonging or appertaining, to hold to the said PHILOMAN THOMAS, his heirs and assigns forever, yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time may ?wish, provided always that the said PHILEMON THOMAS shall cause this grant to be ___ land in the register’s office of our said county of Anson within 12 months from the date hereof, otherwise the same shall be void and of no effect. In testimony whereof, we have caused our great seal to be hereunto affixed.
