All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com May 27, 2006, 10:49 pm From North Carolina Archives, Microfilm C.005.40004, Anson County Record of Deeds, Vol. K, page 392: Written: January 20, 1775 Recorded: July 1777 Micajah Pickett to PHILEMON THOMAS. “This indenture made this 20th day of January, 1775, between Micajah Pickett of Craven County in South Carolina, planter, of the one part, and PHILEMON THOMAS of the County of Anson in the province of North Carolina of the other part.” “Witnesseth that for, and in consideration of the sum of 60 pounds of proclamation money to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged; the said Micajah Pickett hath granted and sold, released, aliened and confirmed and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell, alien, release and confirm unto the said PHILLEMON THOMAS and his heirs and assigns forever: “All that tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County aforesaid on the north east side of Pedee River beginning at a red oak on the north side of the main fork of Cartiledge’s Creek and runs north 75 east 160 poles crossing a drean [drain?] to a blackjack, then south 15 west 200 poles crossing to a drean [drain?] to a white oak near the creek, then south 75 east 160 poles up and crossing the said creek to a red oak, then north 15 east 200 poles, crossing said creek to the first station, patent granted to William Stutley Shearly bearing date July the 1st ?1775? and conveyed to Micajah Pickett, together with all houses, buildings, orchards, gardens, fences, meadows, trees, woods, underwoods, ways, waters, profits, commodities, hereditaments and advantages thereunto belonging or appertaining, etc. [No mention is made of the acreage here.] Micajah Pickett, signed sealed and delivered in the presence of us, James Terry, Joseph Hall.
