All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com May 27, 2006, 10:51 pm From North Carolina State Archives, Microfilm C.005.40002, Anson County Record of Deeds, Vol. 7, page 86: Written: January 29, 1779 Recorded: April 1779 “This indenture made this 29th day of January, 1779, between PHILEMON THOMAS and ELIZABETH THOMAS, his wife, of the State of North Carolina and Anson County, planters, of the one part, and John Cole of the same state and county, of the other part; “Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of 3000 pounds lawful money to us, PHILEMON THOMAS and ELIZABETH THOMAS, his wife, paid by the said John Cole before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt we acknowledged therefore, have bargained, sold, aliened, en___ed and confirmed, and by these presents doth bargain, sell, alien, en___, and confirm unto the said John Cole, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever: “All that part or parcel of a tract of land situate in the County aforesaid on the lower side of Hitchcock’s Creek and on both sides of Falling Creek, beginning at a forked pine at the head of Crawford’s Spring Branch, being Thomas Stafford Williams corner, running south 80 west about 275 poles to Hitchcock Creek, then down various courses of the creek to where the 2nd line of the said tract crosses the said creek, then with the said line to a hickory which is called John Brown’s line, thence north 30 east 320 poles by Brown’s and Gibson’s corner to a pine on Falling Creek, thence crossing said Falling Creek north 10 west 106 poles to two small white oaks by James Brown’s corner tree, a blackjack, thence north 70 east 86 poles to a hickory, thence 10 west 54 poles to a hickory in Thomas Stafford William’s line, thence with his line to the first station which part of the said tract contains 300 acres of land as appears by patent granted to John Crawford bearing the date 9th November 1764 and etc. Signed PHILEMON THOMAS, ELIZABETH THOMAS.
