D. McColl: Written: February 14, 1795 there is mentioned “a deed recorded in the clerk’s office of Marlboro County, in Bennettsville, SC showing that on the 14th day of February 1795. PHILEMON THOMAS and his wife, ELIZABETH THOMAS, conveyed certain lands to Marcy PeGues and others. In this deed PHILEMON is referred to as being a resident of Richmond County, NC, and the record may be seen by reference to Book E of Deeds, page 73. There is also an Anson County Land Grant record [later Richmond County], Book 20, page 673, No. 2730, on Microfilm S.108.403 in the North Carolina State Archives, which, on the outside of the document, refers to William Thomas, son of PHILEMON THOMAS.
