[It is likely that his first wife, Sarah Scott, had already died, because there is never any mention of her in any of these early deeds following.] The earliest document to indicate this move in 1769 was the deed to Alcock’s Pharsalia, 66 2/3 acres, [R. R. folio 356, Land Division, Talbot Co, in the Hall of Records, Annapolis, MD?] granted to Thomas Alcock, in April 5, 1684. PHILEMON THOMAS conveyed to William Thomas, part of Hawkin’s Pharsalia, Lee’s Chance, and Thomas’s Addition, in 1767 Queen Anne Co, MD. In the deed, PHILEMON [I] THOMAS was called “Planter, of Anson County, North Carolina, formerly of Queen Anne’s County, MD.” According to a letter written by Eleanor Pratt Covington McSwain, PHILEMON [I] settled next to John Bostic or Bostick’s 640 acres. Bostick was one of those who signed affidavits for PHILEMON [I], upon leaving Maryland.
