McDonald 22.Murdock McLeod Surgeon 23.Adjutant General JOHN SMITH Additional Comments: John Smith Little River was an original signer of a Regulators Petition in 1769 but became a NC Tory Officer and was captured. He was charged with "taking up arms".He was a POW for 7 months and petitioned for release. He was released after posting bond and was required to take a Loyalty Oath. His petition was signed John Smith Little River. He became ill in prison and died after 1784 in Montgomery County, NC. His son Gabriel Smith Sr. served in the Anson Co. Patriot Militia.
