He volunteered at Fayetteville in 1782 as a private in Captain Doherty's Company under command of Colonel Shepherd's 10th North Carolina Regiment. In 1844, Bailey's widow, PENELOPE JOPLIN BAILEY, aged eighty seven, applied for pension from Granville County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of ROBERT JOPLIN. They married in 1778. She died March 6, 1846. Their children were: POLLY - born March 12, 1781 CLARISSA - died young ROBERT - born Oct. 20, 1782 BETSY - born 1784 WILLIAM - born 19, 1788 GINFFRY - born Dec. 6, 1790 PELEG - born July 15, 1792 JEREMIAH - born Jan. 13, 1795 MATTY - born 1796 JOHN - born 1797 PENELOPE - born 1790 On Sept. 1, 1851, ROBERT, PELEG, WILLIAM and GINFFREY WILLIAMS of Wake County, N.C. applied for pension and were granted pension due their mother.
