He enlisted from Anson County and served two stints for a total of 18 months as a private in the North and South Carolina troops in Captain Armstrong's Company under the commands of Cols. Davidson and Sumpter. He was engaged in the Battle of Stone Gap, S.C. He became ill and spent a month in a hospital in Charleston, S.C. BURRIS applied for pension on June 7, 1832 from Montgomery County, at 80 years of age. He stated he was born in 1754. He died in Stanley County in 1845. His widow, JUDITH, and son, WILLIAM BURRIS, appeared in Stanley County in 1851 to petition for pension. WILLIAM BURRIS stated he was 66 years old. SOLOMON BURRIS married in 1783 JUDITH TAYLOR (1766 - 1851), according to his DAR record. There are two pages from the family Bible included in this pension application, Unfortunately, this record has faded so badly, this transcriber could only faintly make them out.
