All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Kermit Smith kermit61@bellsouth.net July 19, 2007, 11:31 am Pension Application Oath State of North Carolina, Superior Court of Law,Anson County, Sept, Term 1820 Original Claim On the 10th day of September 1820 personally appeared in open court,being a court of record,for said county, William Henson of the county aforesaid,age about sixty five years,who being this duly sworn according to law,doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provisions made by the Act of Congress of the 18th day of May 1818 and on the 1st day of May 1820 that the said, William Hinson,enlisted in the service of the United States, in the company commanded by Capt.John Thorn.That he was attached to the Regiment commanded by Col.Morgan in the line of the State of Virginia in the Continental establishment,that he enlisted in the County of Culpeper in the State of Virginia on or about the 15th of January or therabouts in the year 1775 or1776. That he continued to serve till he was discharged at the Valley Forge in January 1777 or 1778, that he was in the Battle of Woodbridge and Piscataway Swamp near Amboy at the Capture of General Burgoyne at Saratoga and at Chestnut Hill, that he has no other evidence now in his power exept which he has proved and sent to the War Office.And in presence this day 1820 I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen in the United States on the 18th day of May 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift, sold or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of the Act of Congress enacted to provide for certain persons engaged in this law and proved Service of the United States in the Revolutionary War on this 18th day of March 1818,& that I have not nor has any persons entrusted for me any property or Security contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule here unto annexed by me subscribed that is an old shotgun, a few farming tools worth not more that two dollars, that I am by occupation a farmer or laborer & that my family consists of myself, an aged wife & two granddaughters named Polly and Sealy Hinson. William Hinson(his signature) Sworn to and subscribed in open court the 15th day of September 1820 Martin Pickett CSC(Clerk Superior Court) State of North Carolina Anson County I Martin Pickett, Clerk of the Superior Court of same for the County of Anson do certify that the foregoing oath and the Schedule Amounts annexed are duly copied from the records of the said and I do further certify that it is the opinion of the said court that the total amount in the value of property named in the aforesaid Schedule is two dollars. In Testimony where I have hereunto let my hand and affixed the Seal of Said Court this 14th day of September in the 45th year of American Independence A.D. 1820. Morgan of the Virginia Line for the tern of one year. Inscribed on the Roll of North Carolina at the rate of 8 dollars per month to commence on 15th of September 1820. Certificate of Pension issued the 11th of June 1821 and sent to John Culpeper,Esq. Lawrenceville, N.C.
