During his engagement in skirmish as Drowning Creek this soldier's brother, WILLIAM RUSHING was wounded and subsequently died as a result. In 1777, RICHARD RUSHING reenlisted in Captain Stephen Jackson's Company and served 10 months. He served another eight months in the same company during a third enlistment in 1778; and a fourth stint with the same company in 1780. He was in a skirmish on the Black River, at Bates Bridge, at Lynch's, Richardson's and Thompson's Creeks. He lived in Anson County until about 1820, when he then moved to Tennessee. He was born in 1747 "on the Roanoke." He applied for and was granted a pension in 1834 at the age of 85. He was then living on Rushing Creek in Jackson, Perry County, Tenn. He said he was usually with his brother, Phillip. No other family information was given in his pension application.
