He was firstin Capt. Spencer's Company under the command of Col. McClannahan's Regiment for two years as private. Then he was in Capt. Burley's Company under under command of Col. McClannahan's in the Woodford Brigade. His company united with the Grand Army under the command of General George Washington. He was engaged in the Battles of Brandywine, at Germantown, at White Plains and Trenton. He also served in Capt's White's Company, the 1st Regiment of the Continental Line and was at the Siege of Charleston, where he was captured and taken prisoner. WILLOUGHBY first applied for pension in 1828. Then again in 1832 from Anson. He was then 80 years old. He died on 17 Dec. 1839 in Anson. On Sept. 4, 1839 his sons and lawful heirs applied for arrears on his pension through their attorney JAMES HUSKE of Anson. The applicants were listed as WILLIS J. WILLOUGHBY, JOSEPH WILLOUGHBY, CHARLES WILLOUGHLY and NATHAN WILLOUGHBY.
