C. informs us that two men, ALEXANDER GOWINGS and WM. HOLBROOK, escaped from jail in that town on Saturday nigh. They were confined on a charge of taking to Knoxville, Tenn. a negro slave belonging to WILLIAM RATLIFF of Anson. GOWINGS is 38 or 40 years of age, broad shoulders, rather spare built, dark hair, keen blue eyes, large beard, long and rather pointed nose, nearly covering the upper lip, sharp chin, weight 150 lbs., wore blue cloth frock coat, blue pantaloons, boots an old white hat. HOLBROOK is 21 or 22 years old, five feet 10 inches high, stout, hair light, and erect in front, weights about 160 lbs, fair complexion, and freckled, frock coat of Kentucky Jeans with a velvet collar, mixed homespun pantaloons.
