MARTIN PICKETT It becomes our painful duty to record a melancholy event that happened in this village on Sunday morningl, the 22nd instant. W. W. BOYD and MARTIN J. PICKETT, both citizens of the town engaged in a rencountre at the above-mentioned time in the piazza fronting SIGMAN'S Hotel, in which PICKETT was shot twice by BOYD with two different pistols. The ball of the first pistol did not inflict a mortal wound; that of the second, did. Both balls entered the abdoman. The one fired from the second pistol passed into the left kidney. COLONEL PICKETT languished in the most intense pain and agony until Tuesday morning when he died. MR. BOYD has been committed to jail to await his trial at the next Superior Court to be held for this County.
