Sept. 8, 1892 The Messenger-Intelligencer says two young ladies, daughters of Mr. H. D. PINKSTON of Wadesboro, and a young lady relative, who was their guest, were returning to Wadesboro from a visit to the country last Saturday week, and when they were near the plantation of MR. DIXON INGRAM they noticed four men -- two of them white and two of them black -- in a field near the road. Just as they got opposite these men one of them -- a white man -- pulled out a pistol and fired at them, the ball striking the singletree of the phaeton in which they were riding, injuring it so badly that it broke in two pieces. Just about this time a gentleman came along and helped them to repair the damage, and they came on to Wadesboro without further molestation. The scoundrels who fired the shot took to their heels as soon as they saw the gentleman coming, and they have not yet been arrested, but MR. PINKSTON thinks he knows the name of at least one of them and the end of the affair is not yet.
